Building Conservation Work by The Lime Company Wales

We are really pleased to be working with Chris Wright and Cliff Blundell author of Precious Inheritance and founder of the The Lime Company Wales in conserving Pantyrhwch...

From their site survey it seems the old place is reasonably sound and The Lime Company (TLC) will be stating work towards the end of the year removing the "modern" finishes (concrete, paint, etc.) that have been applied in various places and then during next year reapplying the original lime finishes, repairing where necessary the woodwork, floors and roof

We are also looking forward to reinstating the "shimle fawr" and putting in a woodburing stove with a boiler for hot water/heating, linked also to solar panels....this means that whilst we've had to give up on the Rayburn in the kitchen due to space limitations we will still be able to have heating and hot water from home grown coppice and solar.

If in doubt.....do nothing....the kitchen challenge!!

Having looked at extending north with the negative implications of the extension getting very little sun and therefore being potentially dark and cold, we looked at going south but this would mean demolishing the south facing gable end wall of the existing extension and digging into the slope of the land, neither of which we are keen on doing.....

So if in doubt...dont do anything! We have decided to keep the cottage as it is, for now at least. We'll see how we get on with living there and only make changes based on our experience over time.

Meanwhile the kitchen designers have the challenge of coming up with a practical country kitchen in 15' by 7' . This will mean sacrificing our original idea of a Rayburn but otherwise it should be possible?!
